Every year the Foundation for Visual Arts—an independent, non-profit arts organisation dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of the visual arts in Poland, with an emphasis on photography—hosts the Krakow Photomonth festival. In 2016 the Photocaptionist was commissioned by curator Lars Willumeit to compile a glossary of photography for the publication The (Un)becomings of Photography that accompanied the festival. As the task seemed like a mission impossible we decided to embrace failure and compiled instead an Anti-Glossary of Photography and Visual Culture, with sixty-nine buzzwords that feed into current photographic discourses and issues of visual culture, mingling rigour with irreverence and humour.
